Unwavering Support

Our support for those affected by cancer is unwavering. No matter what you need to support your treatment—cancer supplements, mileage and/or lodging reimbursement for cancer treatment-related appointments, cancer supplies and other medical equipment, etc.—we can help.

Financial Support for Cancer Patients

Up to $500/month in support. Compassionate care that meets you where you are.

At Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association, we’re here to ease the practical burdens of cancer by providing free services for cancer patients. Whether it’s travel costs, prescription copays, or essential supplies, we help reduce the stress so you can focus on healing. Every person’s needs are different—our job is to meet you with empathy, flexibility, and support that makes a real difference.

Mileage Reimbursement

Treatment isn’t always close to home. While we don’t supply free transportation services for cancer patients, we can help offset the cost of travel by reimbursing $0.35 per mile for cancer-related medical appointments.

  • No mileage log needed—we calculate distance using MapQuest. 
  • Just provide an After Visit Summary for each appointment. 
  • Checks are processed weekly—no long waits.

Prescription Assistance

Out-of-pocket prescription costs add up fast. If your medication is cancer-related, we can help. We cover copays for cancer prescriptions.

Nutritional Supplements

Maintaining strength during treatment is vital. We provide Ensure and similar supplements to support your nutritional needs.

Prefer a specific brand? Purchase it yourself and we’ll reimburse you.

Parking Assistance

Valet fees and hospital parking costs shouldn’t be a barrier to care. We reimburse parking costs for cancer-related appointments—just submit a parking receipt when submitting your after visit summary.

Hotel Assistance

If your treatment requires an overnight stay, we’ll help cover the cost—up to $50 per night. Simply submit a hotel receipt to receive your reimbursement.

Cancer Medical Supplies & Equipment

From comfort items to critical home equipment, if it’s cancer-related, there’s a good chance we can help cover it. Here are just a few examples:

  • Wigs, mastectomy bras, prosthetics
  • Pull-ups, chux, gloves, wipes
  • Walkers, wheelchairs, rollators, canes
  • Shower chairs, bedside commodes, hospital beds, ramps

Throw Paint at Cancer

Our weekly painting class offers a fun, low-pressure space for clients, survivors, and caregivers to recharge emotionally.

  • Thursdays at 2pm
  • Free of charge
  • All supplies provided
  • Guided by a local artist

Absolutely no experience needed—just show up and let it flow. This program isn’t about being a great painter. It’s about being seen, supported, and reminded that you’re not alone.

How It Works

DPCA keeps things simple and consistent: 

  • Reimbursement requests are due by Tuesday at noon.
  • We write checks weekly.
  • You’ll usually receive your check by the weekend, depending on post office delivery.
