Learn About Us

Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association (DPC) is a local nonprofit organization that provides financial, educational, and emotional support to cancer patients in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area. DPC provides emotional support not only in the office setting but also with our COPING cancer support group that meets the last Tuesday of every month, where not only the client is invited, but also any caregivers that may be providing support to their loved one.  We provide access to other educational materials and cancer awareness through our association with the Cancer Research & Resource Center of Southern Virginia. We are not a part of the American Cancer Society and we do not charge any of our clients for any services. “Cancer does not discriminate, neither do we.”

How it All Started

Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association (formally Danville Cancer Association) was formed in 1959 and is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization under IRS ruling.  Originally the association began as a three part program that contributed towards local cancer research that was conducted by local physicians.  The second part of the program included providing educational materials concerning cancer that was presented by representatives of the association to groups and the general public.  The last part of the program was the patient services end, where aid in the form of travel reimbursement was provided for clients traveling out of town for treatments and through donated medical supplies and equipment.
